About Us

Finca 588 is a 10-acre sustainable working farm and homestead on the Azuero Peninsula of Panama built on permaculture principles. We have restored degraded cattle pasture into a thriving and productive tropical food forest, a biodiverse ecosystem which sustains us and our animals. We make raw milk cheeses, cure farm raised meats, and grow food abundantly.

What we do

We see our land as a living classroom for all the friends, neighbors, and visitors that cross our paths. We hope to empower people to take meaningful steps towards more sustainable, (and delightful!) lives. We grow high quality organic greens and ethically raised grass fed animals, make raw milk cheeses, ferment delicious tropical wines, and try to live in harmony with the natural world around us. We host all kinds of groups, from Panamanian school children to American Peace Corp volunteers, to groups of college students. We don’t think we can change the whole world , but we can change the world we live in.

“Rebecca & James are true stewards of the Earth. Their farm is a beautiful reflection of their values.”

In a glimpse…

  • James graduated from Texas A&M and after an international career in oilfield logistics, he came to Panama seeking waves and found the farm and partner of his dreams. He is passionate about animal husbandry, old world recipes for smoking, salting, and curing, & heirloom tomatoes.

  • Rebecca graduated from Elon University and after working on many farms all across Latin America, decided to start her own. Her background in environmental education drives her passion to share what she knows with others who have a thirst for the knowledge to live a more sustainable life. She is passionate about soil health, raw milk cheese, and fermentation.
